This is a quick-reference guide for wheel and tire combos on the 1997–2004 Chevrolet Corvette C5. The C5 runs a staggered configuration from the factory. The Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)‘s Active Handling system is calibrated to expect this difference and will trigger false wheel-slip interventions if the stagger is removed without disabling the system.
Hub specs: 5x120.65mm bolt pattern, 70.3mm centerbore, M12x1.5 thread, 60° conical seat, 100 lb-ft torque.
For detailed wheel fitment information including brake clearance and suspension hard points, see the C5 Corvette Wheel Guide. For tire diameter compatibility and stagger pairings, see the C5 Corvette Tire Guide.

Popular Proven Setups
OEM+ / Street
17x9.5” +54 F / 18x10.5” +58 R — 265/40R17 F / 295/35R18 R: OEM C5 Z06 spec. Direct bolt-on, no modifications required. 30mm section width stagger, 0.78” diameter stagger. Best entry point for owners sourcing a used set of Z06 wheels before investing in an aftermarket setup.
18x9.5” +45 to +55 F / 19x10.5” +55 to +65 R — 265/35R18 F / 295/30R19 R: Easy aftermarket upgrade. No modifications required at typical offsets. Opens up the full range of 18”/19” performance tire selection. 30mm section width stagger, 0.68”–0.91” diameter stagger depending on offset. Works equally well on base and Z06 cars.
Aggressive Street
18x10” +45 to +58 F / 19x10.5” +55 to +65 R — 275/35R18 F / 305/30R19 R: Flush front at the lower end of the offset range. Wider front contact patch improves braking and cornering bite while providing slightly more traction in the rear. 30mm section width stagger, 0.63” diameter stagger. No fender work required; −1.0° additional front camber recommended at lower offsets. Typically clears without rubbing.
18x10” +45 to +58 F / 19x11” +50 to +57 R — 275/35R18 F / 305/30R19 R: Verify inner liner clearance at full rear compression before committing to this setup. 30mm section width stagger, 0.62” diameter stagger. −1.0° additional front camber recommended.
18x10” +45 to +58 F / 18x11” +50 to +57 R — 275/35R18 F / 305/35R18 R: Same-diameter 18” stagger. Eliminates the mixed wheel diameter rake and provides access to broader 18” all-season tire selection. Verify transverse leaf spring clearance at full rear compression. 30mm section width stagger, 0.83” diameter stagger.
Track / Competition (Square, AH Off Required)
18x10.5” +55 to +60 — 295/35R18: Sourcing four C5 Z06 rear wheels (+58) is a common path. Maximizes tire rotation flexibility. −1.5° front camber minimum.
18x11” +53 to +57 — 315/30R18: Spec Corvette setup. Cooling duct contact likely at full lock. −2.7° front / −1.2° rear camber.
Main C5 Fitment Considerations
Active Handling Stagger Requirement: The EBCM requires the rear tire to be 0.5”–1.5” taller in overall diameter than the front. The staggered rows above maintain this window. Square setups require Active Handling to be disabled and are not appropriate for street use.
SMC Fenders Cannot Be Rolled: The C5 body is Sheet Molded Compound. Applying a fender roller causes cracking and panel failure. All clearance must come from offset selection and negative camber.
5x120mm vs. 5x120.65mm: The C5 uses 5x120.65mm—not the 5x120.0mm pattern used by BMW vehicles and the C8 Corvette. The 0.65mm difference puts studs into a bending stress condition under lateral load, accelerating fatigue. Use 5x120.65mm wheels.
Front Brake Cooling Ducts: At full lock, 18x11” front wheels contact the brake cooling ducts. Steering rack limiters are available to protect the ducts if street use is desired.
Transverse Leaf Spring Clearance: Wide rear wheels can contact the spring ends under aggressive compression, particularly when the car has been lowered. At 18x11” rear, verify clearance through full suspension travel before committing. A full coilover conversion removes the transverse leaf spring entirely, eliminating this constraint.
Spacers and Extended Studs: OEM stud length (~45mm) limits spacer thickness to 3–5mm without extended studs. Above 5mm, 12.9-grade M12x1.5 extended studs are required. All spacers must be hub-centric (70.3mm ID bore).
Cross-Platform Compatibility
The C5, C6, and C7 share the 5x120.65mm bolt pattern and 70.3mm centerbore. Physical mounting is straightforward; offsets and body widths differ significantly between generations.
C6 standard wheels (18x8.5” +56 F / 19x10” +79 R): The extreme +79 rear offset sinks the tire into the inner liner on a C5—a 20–25mm spacer would be required, which is not a practical solution. The fronts are a near-direct fit.
C6 Z06 / Grand Sport wheels (18x9.5” +40 F / 19x12” +59 R): Lower offsets relative to width. The rears will poke beyond the factory C5 fender edge and typically require flares or appropriate ride height to avoid contact under compression.
C7 wheels: The C7 Z51 uses a 19”/20” double-stagger setup. The 19” fronts frequently cause steering rack interference at full lock on a C5. Reproduction wheels in 17”/18” or 18”/19” with C5-appropriate offsets are the more practical route for owners wanting the C7 aesthetic.
C8 wheels: The C8 moved to 5x120.0mm and M14 hardware. Not interchangeable with C5 hubs without adapters and not recommended for performance use.
