The 19-inch wheel is standard on the LT, 2LT, and 2RS Equinox EV trims. All ship from the factory with a 245/55R19 Michelin Primacy A/S, a grand touring all-season that prioritizes comfort and range efficiency over outright grip. Both FWD and AWD drivetrains share this wheel and tire combination. This guide covers the OEM spec, what to consider when replacing your tires, and which categories to shop. For 21-inch RS wheels see the 21” guide.
OEM Wheel and Tire Specs
The 19-inch wheel on the Equinox EV family is a 19x8.5” aluminum wheel with a +55mm offset and 6×120mm bolt pattern and 66.9mm centerbore.
| Tire Model | Load/Speed | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Michelin Primacy A/S | 103H | TPC Spec, Grand Touring All-Season |
The Michelin Primacy A/S is a comfort-oriented grand touring tire: quiet, long-wearing, and suited to the Equinox EV’s efficiency-focused character. GM specified the non-XL standard load (SL) variant and the factory tire is TPC Spec labeled. TPC spec (Tire Performance Criteria Specification) means a tire meets specific, high-performance standards required by General Motors (GM) for their vehicles’ handling, safety, and ride comfort. You do not need to buy a TPC Spec tire to replace your existing tires.
Before You Buy
Load index. The Equinox EV weighs approximately 4,400–4,700 lbs depending on drivetrain. Match or exceed a 103 load index on all four corners. The OEM tire is standard load (SL) at 103. XL-rated tires may be a desired upgrade but are not strictly required.
Tire size. The OEM size is 245/55R19. The 255/55R19 is a popular wider alternative, fitting the 8.5” rim more squarely and providing a marginally larger contact patch. It is 1.5% larger in overall diameter, well within the safe ±3% threshold. 255/50R19 is also an option if you are struggling to find the specific tire you want. For other sizes within 3% of OEM diameter, see our 245/55R19 Tire Table.
TPMS. The Equinox EV uses direct TPMS with 433 MHz sensors in the valve stem. During a standard tire swap the sensors stay in the wheel. Do not pay for new sensors on a routine replacement. After mounting, initiate a TPMS relearn through the vehicle’s infotainment or the vehicle status app.
AWD tire replacement. GM recommends replacing all four tires simultaneously on AWD Equinox EVs. The electric AWD system manages each motor’s output based on expected wheel speed, and tread depth differences between axles introduce circumference variance the system cannot fully compensate for. If replacing in pairs, consult your owner’s manual for the specific tread depth variance limit. On FWD variants, standard practice applies: replace in pairs and put the newer tires on the rear axle.
Grand Touring All-Season
The Michelin Primacy A/S is a grand touring all-season, and that is the right category for most Equinox EV owners. These tires are quiet, long-wearing, and handle rain and light snow without requiring seasonal swaps.

The Michelin CrossClimate 2 and Continental SecureContact AW are worth considering for owners who see more than occasional snow, as both carry the 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) rating that the Primacy A/S does not. Vredestein’s tires consistently test well against higher-priced competition at noticeably lower prices and are worth a look if budget matters.
Ultra High Performance All-Season
If you want sharper handling without giving up year-round usability, Ultra High Performance All-Season tires improve cornering response and wet grip meaningfully over the OEM grand touring spec. The Equinox EV’s instant torque responds well to a firmer, more performance-oriented compound.

UHPAS tires can be more limited in SUV-specific sizes than in common passenger car fitments and a 255/50R19 is a solid fallback. Visit TireRack to find full availability in 245/55R19 and 255/55R19 sizing.
Summer Performance
For owners in mild climates who want the full capability the platform offers, or who run a dedicated winter set, summer tires deliver meaningfully better dry and wet grip than any all-season. Expect higher road noise and a compound that loses grip below 40°F.

Winter
If you live somewhere with real winter, a dedicated seasonal swap is the safest choice. The stopping distance difference between a dedicated winter tire and an all-season on ice is significant, and the Equinox EV’s weight makes stopping distance a serious consideration. Running a second set of steel or alloy wheels with winters mounted is typically cheaper over time than paying a shop to dismount and remount tires twice a year. 235/60R19 is a narrower alternative for winter tires on the OEM 19” wheels. Visit TireRack for dedicated winter wheel and tire combinations.
Performance Winter and Snow
Performance winter tires carry a 3PMSF rating and are fully winter-capable, but prioritize dry and wet handling alongside snow traction. The right choice for owners who cover highway miles through winter and want confident grip without sacrificing all handling dynamics.

Studless Ice and Snow
Studless ice and snow tires maximize winter traction on ice, packed snow, and in severe cold. Dry-road handling is softer than a performance winter, but in genuinely harsh conditions these tires make a measurable safety difference.

Mounting and Installation
A few reminders specific to the Equinox EV:
- TPMS sensors stay in the wheel. Do not pay for new sensors on a standard tire swap. A valve stem seal inspection is normal and worth doing.
- Relearn TPMS after the swap via the vehicle infotainment. Consult your owner’s manual for the exact menu path.
- Lug nut torque spec: 140 ft-lb. Confirm your installer knows the torque spec and has a properly calibrated torque wrench.
- AWD tread depth tolerance. GM recommends replacing all four tires simultaneously on AWD variants. Consult your owner’s manual for the specific allowable tread depth variance before replacing in pairs.
- New tires go on the rear. When replacing in pairs on FWD variants, always put the newer tires on the rear axle.
