The Mach-E GT and GT Performance Edition are the performance variants of the lineup. They are AWD-only, extended range, and the only trims to wear 20” wheels. Both use a 245/45R20 tire, but the standard GT and the GT Performance Edition shipped with completely different rubber: an all-season on one and a purpose-built summer EV tire on the other. That split shapes how you think about replacement. This guide covers both OEM specs, what matters when replacing them, and which categories to shop. For 18” Select and California Route 1 wheels see the 18” OEM tire guide. For 19” Premium and Rally wheels see the 19” OEM tire guide.

OEM Wheel and Tire Specs

Both the GT and GT Performance Edition use the same 20x8” wheel with a +47.5mm offset, 5×108 bolt pattern, and 63.4mm centerbore. The difference goes beyond the spoke design as the two trims came with different tires.

Continental CrossContact RX103H XLGrand Touring All-Season, “Standard” GT
Pirelli P Zero (PZ4)103Y XLMax Performance Summer, ELECT, GT Performance Edition

The standard GT’s Continental CrossContact RX is a grand touring all-season tire: comfortable, year-round capable, and a conservative choice for what is otherwise a performance vehicle. The GT PE’s Pirelli P Zero is the opposite: a summer-only tire with a compound and construction optimized for torque delivery.

Before You Buy

Load index. The GT and GT Performance Edition are the heaviest Mach-E variants at approximately 4,890–4,920 lbs. Match or exceed a 103 load index with an XL-rated tire. Do not fit standard load (SL) tires.

Tire size. The OEM size is 245/45R20. Moving to 255/45R20 is also a popular setup. It provides marginally more grip, is 1.2% larger in overall diameter, and well within the safe ±3% threshold. For other sizes within 3% of OEM diameter, see our 245/45R20 Tire Table.

TPMS. The Mach-E uses direct TPMS with 433 MHz sensors mounted in each wheel’s valve stem. The sensors stay in the wheel during a standard tire swap. Do not pay for new sensors on a routine replacement. A valve stem seal inspection is normal and worth doing. After the swap, the system reads pressures automatically on the next drive.

AWD tire replacement. The GT and GT PE are AWD-only. Ford’s AWD system does not tolerate a tread depth difference greater than 2/32” between axles. If replacing in pairs, verify that the variance between the worn and new tires does not exceed that threshold and put the newer tires on the rear axle. Rotate every 5,000–7,500 miles to keep wear even.

Ultra High Performance All-Season

For GT owners who want a meaningful improvement over the stock CrossContact RX, or GT Performance Edition owners who want summer-like sharpness without giving up year-round usability, ultra high performance all-seasons are the right move. These deliver better cornering and wet grip than grand touring all-seasons while still being able to handle light snow. They are not a substitute for winter tires, but they eliminate seasonal swaps in moderate climates.

Continental’s ExtremeContact DWS06+ is an enthusiast favorite here, as is the Michelin Pilot Sport AS4.

Summer Performance

The GT PE’s Pirelli P Zero PZ4 is a summer performance tire, and summer performance is the correct home for the platform’s capability. Both GT variants produce 480 hp and over 600 lb-ft of torque, all best put down through a summer compound. Summer tires reward a driver with shorter braking distances, better lateral grip, and more confident wet traction than any all-season. The tradeoff is that they should not be used in temperatures below 40°F. These are warm-weather-only tires.

Grand Touring All-Season

The standard GT’s Continental CrossContact RX falls in the Grand Touring All-Season category, and it is a conservative choice for a 480 hp SUV. Owners who want equivalent or better comfort, longevity, and year-round usability without stepping up in performance will find their replacements here.

Vredestein’s Quatrac Pro+ tests well against more expensive competition at a noticeably lower price and is worth a look.

Winter

If you live somewhere with serious winter, a dedicated seasonal swap beats any all-season. The Mach-E GT’s weight makes stopping distance on ice a serious consideration. A second set of wheels with winters mounted is typically cheaper over time than paying a shop to dismount and remount tires on stock wheels every season. Moving down to a narrower tire on a smaller-diameter wheel for winter is common practice and provides more sidewall and lower rolling mass. 235/45R20 is a popular alternative size for winter tires on the OEM 20” wheels.

The GT carries large brake calipers and rotors, so verify caliper and rotor clearance before committing to a smaller diameter. 19” is typically the smallest practical option. Visit TireRack for dedicated winter wheel and tire combinations.

Performance Winter and Snow

Performance winter tires were developed for European highway conditions where high-speed capability must coexist with snow traction. They carry a 3PMSF rating and are fully winter-capable, but prioritize dry and wet handling over maximum ice grip. The right choice for GT owners who drive long distances through winter and want to keep a dynamic character.

Studless Ice and Snow

Studless ice and snow tires maximize winter traction on ice, packed snow, and in severe cold. Dry-road handling and tread life are softer than a performance winter, but in genuinely harsh conditions these tires make a measurable safety difference. Best suited for owners in regions with long, severe winters where maximum winter grip is the priority.

Mounting and Installation

A few reminders specific to the Mach-E GT:

  • TPMS sensors stay in the wheel. Do not pay for new sensors on a standard tire swap. A valve stem seal inspection is normal and worth doing.
  • Lug nut torque spec: 150 lb-ft. Confirm your installer knows the torque spec and has a properly calibrated torque wrench.
  • AWD tread depth tolerance. Replace all four if tread depth differs more than 2/32” between front and rear.
  • New tires go on the rear. When replacing in pairs, always put the newer tires on the rear axle regardless of which axle wore first.
