The 19-inch wheel is the standard fitment on every IONIQ 5 trim except the Limited AWD. That covers the SE Standard Range, SE, SEL, and Limited RWD across all first-generation model years. All shipped from the factory with a 235/55R19 standard touring all-season with an acoustic foam inner liner. This guide covers the OEM spec, what to consider when replacing your tires, and which categories to shop. For 20-inch Limited AWD wheels see the 20” guide. For IONIQ 5 N 21-inch wheels see the N 21” guide.

OEM Wheel and Tire Specs

The 19-inch wheel on the IONIQ 5 is a 19×7.5” wheel with a +49.5mm offset, 5×114.3mm bolt pattern, and 67.1mm centerbore.

Both the Michelin Primacy A/S and Kumho Crugen HP71 EV fitted to the IONIQ 5 include acoustic foam technology, a polyurethane foam band bonded to the tire’s inner liner that reduces interior road noise. Both 19-inch OEM tires are standard load (SL) and the Michelin OE tire carries Hyundai’s GOE designation. GOE (Genesis Original Equipment) means a tire meets specific performance standards for Hyundai Motor Group vehicles. As evidenced by the Kumho Crugen HP71 EV coming on OE models, you do not need to buy a GOE Hyundai tire to replace your existing tires.

Known issue: A pattern of acoustic foam separation on the Michelin Primacy A/S has been documented in the IONIQ 5 owner community. The foam band debonds from the inner liner, typically after 20,000–30,000 miles, causing persistent highway vibration that wheel balancing cannot fix. If you are experiencing unexplained vibration, have your tire dismounted and inspected for foam detachment.

Before You Buy

Tire size. The OEM size is 235/55R19. 245/55R19 and 255/50R19 are natural steps up that stay well within the safe ±3% threshold, are within acceptable rim width range, and offer superior wheel protection at the slight cost of rolling resistance and efficiency. For other sizes within 3% of OEM diameter, see our 235/55R19 Tire Table.

Load index. The OEM tire is 101H standard load. Match or exceed a 101 load index on all four corners. XL-rated tires in the same size carry a higher load capacity at maximum inflation and offer additional margin for heavier passengers and cargo configurations at the expense of stiffer ride quality.

Acoustic foam. Not every replacement tire is available with an acoustic foam liner. If road noise matters to you, look for tires labeled “Acoustic” (Michelin), “SoundComfort Technology” (Goodyear), or “ContiSilent” (Continental). Foam-lined tires are not required and can complicate plug-and-patch repair. Some shops will decline this service on foam-lined tires.

TPMS. The IONIQ 5 uses direct TPMS with 433 MHz sensors in the valve stem assembly. During a standard tire swap the sensors stay in the wheel. Do not pay for new sensors on a routine replacement. A valve stem seal inspection is normal and worth doing. After the swap, the system reads pressures automatically within a few miles of driving.

No spare tire. The IONIQ 5 comes with a Tire Mobility Kit (compressor and sealant) rather than a spare. The TMK will seal a puncture well enough to reach a shop, but once sealant is applied to a foam-lined tire the foam absorbs it, making a permanent plug-and-patch repair impractical. A sealant-treated foam-lined tire typically needs to be replaced, not repaired.

AWD tire replacement. The IONIQ 5’s AWD system does not tolerate large tread depth differences between axles. If replacing in pairs, verify the tread depth difference between the worn and new tires does not exceed 2/32”. When replacing in pairs, put the newer tires on the rear axle. Rotate every 5,000–7,500 miles to keep wear even.

Grand Touring All-Season

The IONIQ 5 came from the factory with standard touring all-seasons, but a step up in performance category to grand touring all-season is the best choice for most IONIQ 5 owners. These tires are comfortable, quiet, long-wearing, and handle rain and light snow without requiring seasonal swaps. They are also in the same price range as, and frequently priced lower than, the OEM standard touring tires.

The Michelin CrossClimate 2 and Continental SecureContact AW are worth considering for owners who see more than occasional snow, as both carry the 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake rating that the OEM tires do not. Though still building a reputation in the U.S. market, Vredestein’s tires are popular and well-regarded in Europe. They consistently test well against higher-priced competition at lower prices and are a strong value pick in virtually every category.

Ultra High Performance All-Season

If you want more handling capability without giving up year-round usability, Ultra High Performance All-Season tires deliver better cornering response and wet grip than the OEM tires. The IONIQ 5’s instant torque responds well to a firmer compound, and these tires can still handle light snow.

Summer Performance

For owners in mild climates who want the full capability the platform offers, or who run a dedicated winter wheel-and-tire set, summer tires deliver meaningfully better dry and wet grip than any all-season. Expect higher road noise and a compound that loses grip below 40°F. Summer tires are not widely available in SUV-specific sizes at the IONIQ 5’s OEM dimensions.

Winter

If you live somewhere with serious winter, a dedicated seasonal swap outperforms any all-season. The stopping distance gap between a dedicated winter tire and an all-season on ice is significant. Running a second set of wheels with winters mounted is typically cheaper over time than paying a shop to dismount and remount tires twice a year. A narrower section width cuts through snow more effectively, making 225/55R19 a solid option for winter tires on the OEM 19-inch wheels. Visit TireRack for dedicated winter wheel and tire combinations.

Performance Winter and Snow

Performance winter tires carry a 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake rating and are fully winter-capable, while retaining meaningful dry and wet handling for owners who cover highway miles through winter and want confident grip without sacrificing everything else.

Studless Ice and Snow

Studless ice and snow tires maximize traction on ice, packed snow, and in severe cold through advanced siping and compounds that stay pliable at low temperatures. Dry-road handling is softer than a performance winter, but in genuinely harsh conditions these tires make a real safety difference. Best suited for regions with long, harsh winters.

Mounting and Installation

A few reminders specific to the IONIQ 5:

  • TPMS sensors stay in the wheel. Do not pay for new sensors on a standard tire swap. A valve stem seal inspection is normal and worth doing.
  • Lug nut torque spec: 79-94 lb-ft. The owner’s manual has a ranged spec. Confirm your installer knows the torque spec and has a properly calibrated torque wrench.
  • No spare tire. The IONIQ 5 includes a Tire Mobility Kit, not a spare. Using sealant on a foam-lined tire will get you to a shop, but the tire will likely need to be replaced rather than permanently repaired.
  • AWD tread depth tolerance. On AWD variants, replace all four if tread depth differs more than 2/32” between front and rear.
  • New tires go on the rear. When replacing in pairs, always put the newer tires on the rear axle regardless of which axle wore first.
