The IONIQ 5 N is the high-performance variant of the IONIQ 5 lineup, shipping from the factory on 21-inch forged alloy wheels with a purpose-built summer performance tire. At approximately 4,860 lbs and up to 641 hp with N Grin Boost engaged, the N’s tire requirements are meaningfully different from the standard IONIQ 5. This guide covers the OEM spec, what to consider when replacing your tires, and which categories to shop. For standard IONIQ 5 19-inch wheels see the 19” guide. For Limited AWD 20-inch wheels see the 20” guide.
OEM Wheel and Tire Specs
The IONIQ 5 N uses a 21×9.5” forged alloy wheel with a +45mm offset, 5×114.3mm bolt pattern, and 67.1mm centerbore.
| Tire Model | Load/Speed | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Pirelli P Zero (PZ4) | 103Y XL | Max Performance Summer, HN-spec, primary OEM |
The IONIQ 5 N’s OEM Pirelli P Zero PZ4 is an HN-designated (Hyundai N) tire developed by Pirelli specifically for the vehicle. The HN spec accounts for the vehicle’s weight and the high-torque delivery of its dual-motor AWD system. It includes Pirelli’s PNCS (Pirelli Noise Cancelling System) acoustic foam technology. The HN-spec tire is not identical to the retail P Zero PZ4 in the same size, though retail versions in the same size are a compatible and commonly used replacement. The IONIQ 5 N’s OEM tires are for summer use only. The compound loses grip below 40°F and should not be used in near-freezing temperatures.
Before You Buy
Tire size. The OEM size is a 275/35R21. A move to 285/35R21 adds 10mm of section width and a marginally larger contact patch while staying within 1.0% of OEM diameter. For other sizes within 3% of OEM diameter, see our 275/35R21 Tire Table.
Load index. Use XL-rated tires rated 103 or higher. Do not fit standard load (SL) tires.
HN designation. The OEM tire carries an HN designation indicating Hyundai N-specific engineering. You do not need to source an HN-designated tire as a replacement. Any quality summer performance tire is appropriate, and several retail tires in this size match or exceed the OEM’s performance.
TPMS. The IONIQ 5 N uses direct TPMS with 433 MHz sensors in the valve stem. Sensors stay in the wheel during a standard tire swap. Do not pay for new sensors on a routine replacement. After the swap, the system reads pressures automatically; no manual calibration step is required.
No spare tire. The IONIQ 5 N comes with a Tire Mobility Kit (compressor and sealant) rather than a spare. The TMK will seal a puncture well enough to reach a shop, but once sealant is applied to a foam-lined tire the foam absorbs it, making a permanent plug-and-patch repair impractical. A sealant-treated foam-lined tire typically needs to be replaced, not repaired.
AWD tire replacement. The IONIQ 5 N is AWD-only. The torque-vectoring AWD system requires matched tread depth across axles. If replacing in pairs, verify the tread depth difference between worn and new tires does not exceed 2/32”. When replacing in pairs, put the newer tires on the rear axle. Rotate every 5,000–7,500 miles to keep wear even.
Summer Performance
The Pirelli P Zero PZ4 is a max performance summer tire, and summer performance is the correct home for everything the IONIQ 5 N platform offers. A proper summer compound puts the N’s torque down more effectively, delivers shorter braking distances, and delivers more lateral grip in corners than any all-season.

Ultra High Performance All-Season
Owners in climates with cold winters but without a dedicated winter set, or those who want year-round single-tire usability, will find their answer in the Ultra High Performance All-Season category. UHPAS tires in this size deliver meaningfully better dry and wet performance than any grand touring tire while retaining the ability to handle light snow and temperatures below 40°F. The trade-off against a pure summer tire is real but the gap has narrowed considerably as UHPAS compounds have matured.

Winter
If you live somewhere with serious winter, a dedicated seasonal swap is the only correct answer for the IONIQ 5 N. The summer compound becomes a liability at temperatures below 40°F, and on a nearly 4,900 lb car with 641 hp available, winter traction is a genuine safety consideration. Running a second set of smaller-diameter wheels with dedicated winter tires is the standard approach and is typically less expensive over multiple seasons than purchasing 21-inch winters.
Moving down to 20-inch wheels with a narrower tire, such as a 265/40R20, is the most practical winter setup. The taller sidewall provides compliance on packed snow and ice, and the narrower section width cuts through snow more effectively. It is essential to verify brake caliper clearance before committing to any smaller diameter. 265/40R21 is an effective winter tire size for the OEM wheels. Visit TireRack for dedicated 20” and 21” winter wheel and tire combinations.
Performance Winter and Snow
Performance winter tires carry a 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake rating and are fully winter-capable, while retaining meaningful dry and wet handling. The right choice for N owners who cover highway miles in winter and want confident grip without giving up all handling character.

Studless Ice and Snow
Studless ice and snow tires maximize traction on ice, packed snow, and in severe cold. Dry-road handling is softer than a performance winter, but in genuinely harsh conditions these tires make a real safety difference. On a vehicle this heavy, the stopping distance gains on ice are significant.

Mounting and Installation
A few reminders specific to the IONIQ 5 N:
- TPMS sensors stay in the wheel. Do not pay for new sensors on a standard tire swap. A valve stem seal inspection is normal and worth doing.
- Lug nut torque spec: 130-145 lb-ft. The IONIQ 5 N uses a higher torque spec than the standard IONIQ 5. Confirm your installer knows the correct spec and has a properly calibrated torque wrench. Verify against your owner’s manual before service.
- No spare tire. The IONIQ 5 N includes a Tire Mobility Kit, not a spare. Using sealant on a foam-lined tire will get you to a shop, but the tire will likely need to be replaced rather than permanently repaired.
- AWD tread depth tolerance. Replace all four tires if tread depth differs more than 2/32” between front and rear.
- New tires go on the rear. When replacing in pairs, always put the newer tires on the rear axle regardless of which axle wore first.
