The R1S 22” wheel lineup spans a few distinct package combinations across both current generations: Gen 1 Sport, Gen 2 Sport, Gen 2 Range, and Gen 2 Super Sport. All of them run a primary size of 275/50R22. The Super Sport on the Quad-Motor adds a wider 305/45R22 rear tire, making it the first staggered setup in Rivian’s history. For 20” OEM wheels, see the 20” guide. For the discontinued 21” Road wheels, see the 21” guide.
OEM Wheel and Tire Specs
All 22” packages share the R1S’s 5×139.7 (aka 5x5.5”) bolt pattern and 64.1mm centerbore. The Sport and Range wheels use 22×8.5J wheels at a +48mm offset. The 22” primary wheels are produced by Ronal. Sport Dark carries part number PT00001895, Sport Bright PT00001895-E-001, and Range PT00758269-A. The Super Sport steps out to 22×8.5J ET47 front (PT00846485-A) and 22×9.5J ET47 rear (PT00846486-B).

Sport vs. Range. Gen 1 R1S Sport Wheel Packages shipped on 275/50R22 Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season, a Street/Sport Truck All-Season tire closest to the Ultra High Performance All-Season category. Beginning with the 2025 Gen 2 R1S, both the Sport and Range packages moved to the 275/50R22 Pirelli Scorpion MS, a Crossover/SUV Touring All-Season closest to the Grand Touring All-Season category, which carries an HL (High Load) rating. HL is a newer industry standard that permits higher load capacities at the same tire pressure, important for a vehicle consistently above 7,000 lbs GVWR. The previous range-maxxing wheel was the 21” combination that was left behind with Gen 1.
Despite sharing the same wheel diameter, these two packages are meaningfully different. The Sport wheel and tire combination is heavier at 83 lbs per corner. The Range wheel combo comes in at 76 lbs (7 lbs lighter) and adds clip-in aerodynamic covers that reduce drag.
Super Sport staggered fitment. The 22” Super Sport wheels carry a 1” width stagger and the 305/45R22 rear is 30mm wider than the 275/50R22 fronts, providing a substantially larger contact patch at the rear axle. At 1,025 hp and 1,198 lb-ft, the Quad Max can use all the rear grip you can give it. A staggered setup prevents front-to-rear tire rotation. Plan for more frequent tire replacement over “square” setups.
Before You Buy
275/50R22 availability. While 275/50R22 is not a seemingly one-off size, it lacks the robust aftermarket of smaller tire sizes. The tire availability tables below include 265/50R22, 285/45R22, and 285/50R22, each within ±3% of the OEM diameter. The tradeoff for the 265/50R22 is a marginally narrower contact patch for slightly better rolling resistance. For the 285/50R22, the penalty is slightly more weight and rolling resistance for a larger contact patch.
The OE size is a “33” and close to a 33x10.5R22 flotation size, however, there are no tires available in this size. See the 275/50R22 for more compatible sizes.
No tire rotation on staggered setups. The primary downside of the Super Sport wheel package is that owners cannot perform traditional front-to-rear rotations. Monitor rear wear carefully and budget accordingly.
Super Sport rear replacements. The 305/45R22 rear is less common than the front 275/50R22. Even when exploring slightly different tire section widths, paired availability ends up strictly matched to 275/50R22 front and 305/45R22 rear. The tables below show only same tire model pairings. For winter, the staggered setup makes a second square wheel-and-tire setup an easier solution: a matched set of 22” wheels with a 275/50R22 winter tire front and rear.
HL vs. XL. HL tires are not yet universally common but the selection is growing. You can fit an XL-rated replacement without issue if the load index is sufficient.
Diameter match. All three 22” configurations produce a 33-inch assembly diameter. Moving between Sport, Range, and Super Sport wheels does not require updating the vehicle profile as they are all within the same software profile. Moving from any 22” to the factory 20” All-Terrain (34.1”) requires updating the vehicle software via Settings > Vehicle > Service > Wheels and tires (software 2025.06+) or a Rivian Service Center visit on earlier firmware.
TPMS. The R1S uses 433 MHz direct TPMS sensors in the valve stem. When your tires are swapped, the valve stem and sensor stay in the wheel — the installer demounts the old tire, mounts the new one, and the sensor is never disturbed. Your shop may charge a small fee to inspect or replace the valve stem seal, which is standard practice and worth doing. After the swap, update the wheel profile via Settings > Vehicle > Service > Wheels and tires on the touchscreen.
Axle Tread Depth Tolerance. Rivian specifies a maximum 2/32” tread depth difference between left and right tires on any single axle. The torque-vectoring system requires matched wheel speeds at each corner.
All-Terrains
Square / Sport and Range
The Rivian R1S and R1T were made with adventure in mind. Vehicle previews were in places like California’s Marin County where the R1S fits right in as a mountain bike hauler and campsite transporter. The All-Terrain market in Rivian sizes is quite healthy. Though the wheel is named Range, nothing is stopping you from putting ATs on the Range package wheels.

Staggered / Super Sport
This somewhat surprisingly also extends to the OE staggered tire sizes with a couple of AT options if you find yourself with a spare set of Super Sport wheels.

All-Seasons
For R1S owners who want to extend range and reduce noise beyond what any all-terrain tire can offer, all-seasons are the likely and more common choice. These tires have lower rolling resistance than an All-Terrain and a quieter tread pattern. Another tradeoff is significantly less off-road capability. If your R1S rarely leaves pavement and maximum range matters more than adventure credibility, this is a legitimate direction. Note that most tires in the Ultra High Performance and Highway All-Season categories do not carry the full 3PMSF winter certification, but do carry an M+S Mud and Snow designation. Grand Touring All-Seasons typically do have the 3PMSF designation.

Winter
For owners in climates with real winters, the best answer is a dedicated seasonal swap. A popular option is moving to 20” wheels with dedicated winter tires, however, the 22” tire sizes for the R1S have a wider variety of tire choices. The stopping distance difference between a dedicated winter tire and an all-season on ice is significant. The factory spec winter tire is the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 SUV, a long revered Studless Ice and Snow tire.
Performance Winter and Snow
Performance winter tires carry a 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake rating and retain meaningful dry-road handling. Best suited for owners in climates with regular but not severe winters who want to stay on 22” wheels through the season while retaining meaningful dry and wet handling.

Studless Ice and Snow
Studless ice and snow tires deliver maximum grip on ice and packed snow using pliable cold-weather compounds and aggressive siping. The tradeoff is reduced dry-road performance and faster tread wear. Best for owners in regions with long, harsh winters where ice performance is the priority.

Mounting and Installation
A few reminders specific to the R1S:
- Enable Tire Change Mode before lifting. Navigate to Settings > Vehicle > Service and enable Tire Change Mode before using a jack or lift. The adaptive air suspension can activate while the vehicle is raised. Use the Rivian-specific puck adapter on the frame rail jack points — do not contact the battery housing.
- TPMS sensors stay in the wheel. 433 MHz direct TPMS sensors in the valve stem are not disturbed during a standard tire swap. Do not pay for new sensors unless they are damaged.
- Update wheel profile when changing diameter. Moving from any 22” wheel to the 20” All-Terrain (34”) requires a software update: Settings > Vehicle > Service > Wheels and tires (software 2025.06+). Moving between 22” packages does not require a profile update.
- Lug torque spec: 140 ft-lb (190 Nm). M14×1.5 lug nuts, 22mm socket. Confirm your installer uses a calibrated torque wrench.
- No rotation on Super Sport staggered setup. Front 275/50R22 and rear 305/45R22 cannot be rotated front-to-back. Monitor rear wear independently and replace as needed.
- Axle matching. Left-to-right tread depth on any axle must stay within 2/32”.
